PLATFORMfor REDESIGN 2020Online Platform on Sustainable
and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19

About

e are now facing two crises: climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. Enhancement of international solidarity is indispensable to overcome both crises.

The Online Platform for Sustainable and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19 (“Platform for Redesign 2020”) is a hub that collates countries’ climate and other environmental policies and actions that are planned and implemented in the context of recovery from COVID-19. As governments around the world take action to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 crisis, it is a critical moment for the world to “build back better” -- to redesign our economies and societies to become more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.

Building on the 11th Petersberg Climate Dialogue and the UNFCCC’s June Momentum for Climate Change, this platform showcases information on policies and actions taken by national governments to contribute to a sustainable and resilient recovery from COVID-19. It also features inspiring messages from national leaders and ministers, as well as non-state stakeholders, who remain critical to achieve transformative change.

Importantly, the website contains resources and details regarding the Online Ministerial Meeting on 3 September 2020, at which ministers and high-level officials of UNFCCC Parties will exchange their views and information on climate and other environmental measures relevant to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministerial Meeting, as well as this platform, serve to build the global momentum toward COP26 in 2021.

The Platform for Redesign 2020 is an initiative led by the Ministry of the Environment Japan, supported by the UNFCCC, and managed by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

Video statements by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa, IGES President Kazuhiko Takeuchi, and other important stakeholders can be viewed here.
